Ultrasound Testing during Pregnancy

« Carried without being seen, the foetus, with ultrasound testing, escapes its fate : it becomes a considerable being strictly speaking. Nevertheless something is missing in his image for it to be a portrait (...) The reflexion of the ultrasound tester in his art of story teller, equal and rival to his vision, models the rough image to make it a face. » Paul Denis (le Carnet Psy).

The ultrasound, a preparation to the meeting with the real child, who can eventually be sick, fascinates and worries. Praticians have access to an important knowledge, and their responsibility is all the more bound. The future parents, often bedazzled in front of this premature birth, feel potentially threatened by the performances and by the failures of technique. And we can no longer ignore the implications of the relations that weaven at these so special moments of the waiting of the baby.
